Obsessive planning

So yesterday, I had shocking realization. I had a great meeting with someone about my son and preparing him for the big K when I realized I wasn't doing enough. Yes, I was reading with him and doing some disorganized worksheets but it wasn't enough.

I wasn't taking this seriously. Just pulling a few pages out of a workbook every night is pitiful. I can't just make sure he knows his ABC, how to count, how to make patterns (yes, I know many kids go to school without even that). He needs to be more than ready, he needs to be ahead.

I'm a teacher damnit. I know better. I can do better. I do every day for my students.

I should... will for Batman.

So I spent the evening combing over our state standards for Kindergarten and I am planning the next 10 months just like a would a new school year. Right now, I see eight units. I think we will study Time, Places, Playground Physics, Animals, Friends, Community, Solving Problems and My Body.

Most of these are based upon Science or Social Studies content that is taught in my state. I will, of course, incorporate langauge arts and math goals in each unit.
